Despite advancements in LLMs, the operational mechanisms of large language models remain in the dark. The essence lies in the fact that, currently, understanding the intricate workings of LLM models is not possible. No human being alive understands how LLM works in the year 2023. The concept of safety in this context is disingenuous.
With their "effective altruism cult-like religion," Tasha McCauley and Helen Toner, the two female board members, should have been more honest by stating to the public that nobody at OpenAI is familiar with how LLMs work. In terms of legality, the 2023 LLM industry is merely a world in which true safety technically does not exist. Though, strictly speaking from a legal perspective, we are not living in this world at the moment, we may eventually arrive at one.
